This calculator applies the current official ERC guidelines for calculating the PI's eligibility window and includes all eligible extensions (maternity leave, paternity leave, long-term illness, national service and clinical training). The calculator also takes into account possible personal blocking of the PI as a result of unsuccessful past and future ERC submissions.

Eligibility window calculator - Notes

The main reference document is the ERC Information for Applicants. We advise to consult this document for complete information, including special cases and the required supporting documentation per case.

Note 1 - Applicable only for Medical Doctors (MD) or applicants holding a degree in medicine. In case the MD is the first/only eligible degree, an automatic shift of 2 years of the eligibility window is given (for StG: 4-9 years past MD degree, and for CoG: 9-14 years past MD degree). Read more about this in our dedicated article.

Note 2 - Career break due to maternity leave. Please indicate the number of children. The effective elapsed time for eligibility will be considered reduced by 18 months for each child born before or after the PhD defence.

Note 3 - Eligible career break due to clinical training of the PI. This includes a documented clinical training after the defence of the first eligible degree, and up to 4 years maximum.

Note 4 - Other eligible career breaks. Please indicate the documented amount of actual leave taken (in days) until the call deadline, in line with the following instructions:

In any case, the extension requested may not exceed the time between the start date of the documented circumstance and the relevant call deadline.
